Q: What is the best method of application for Solid Color Deck & Siding Stain?
A: Flood Stain can be applied with brush, roller or airless sprayer. Spray equipment .017-.021 fluid tip, 1800-2000 psi. If Flood Stain is sprayed, it must be back brushed or back rolled for an even application.
Q: How many coats of Flood Solid Color Stain should I use?
A: On decks apply two coats at the rate of 350-400 square feet per gallon. In many cases, a single coat on siding will be sufficient to provide an even, protective coating to vertical surfaces. The condition of the wood and/or previous coating on vertical surfaces will determine the answer. If more than one coat is needed, allow the first coat to dry for at least 3-4 hours before applying the second.

A: The ideal time to apply Flood Solid Color Stain is when the temperatures are consistently between 50-80 degrees Fahrenheit, for a minimum of 48 hours consecutively, including night time temperatures. Do not apply if cold and/or wet weather is expected within 48 hours of your application. Avoid applying it in direct sunlight.
Q: Can Flood Solid Color Stain be applied over a previous finish?
A: Yes, we recommend that the surface be a sound surface, clean, dry and free of dirt or debris. Pressure wash to remove excess dirt and other contamination. Pressure washing is essential, because not only does it assist in cleaning, but if the previous finish is loose it will remove it in those areas ensuring a sound surface.
Q: How long should the wood weather prior to applying Flood Solid Color Stain?
A: New pressure treated wood should weather for 6-8 weeks before applying Solid Color Stain. All new wood, especially decks, should be prepared with Flood’s PowerLift, StainStrip (1:1 with water) or FloodPro Stripper/Cleaner (according to label directions). These products reduce mill glaze and remove natural wood chemicals and other factory-applied sealers to open wood and allow maximum penetration.
